RULES ! « Thread Started on Oct 13, 2009, 4:19pm »
As a prelude: I can be kind of bitchy, but I promise my bark is worse than my bite.
ONE. This should be obvious, but no one liners. As a matter of fact, I'm going to go as far as to say that there is a four hundred word post minimum. HOWEVER, saying that, I expect people to post more than four hundred words. Four hundred words is the absolute minimum -- on days when people are low on muse or time or don't know how to reply. I am willing to help people who don't normally post that much improve, but if you come around here thinking that you don't have a problem and you can only post four hundred words every time, there might be an issue. And it won't be pretty.
TWO. It's been said that the mark of a novice writer is a first person narrative. After attempting to read Twilight, I believe this to be true, and as such, all RPing must be in the third person, the only exceptions I will allow are your character's (italicized) direct thoughts.
THREE. As the administrator of this site, I do not encourage or promote "the use of illegal drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, nudity, or any other form of adult content, profanity, hate, "spam," fraud, racism, mlm, pyramid schemes, or promote any illegal activity" (Proboards TOS, section 3A) However, I understand that these things are often used to further plots and character devices. For this reason, any threads involving things such as sex (mostly sex) must be marked appropriately as mature, and members must be aware that I do not condone the aforementioned behaviors. Because they're bad.
FOUR. This goes without saying, but no godding, power playing, mary-sues/gary-stus. You may ask the person your are RPing with if you may "god" a little in your post, but remember, you cannot respond for the other character. When you punch someone in the face, it is the person who gets punched that gets to decide how he or she takes it, understand?
FIVE. Unless otherwise approved or noted by me, the administrator, no more than seven people in a RP thread at a time. It makes things very confusing and hectic, and while we will have several balls and get togethers that go over the seven person limit, do not accrue more than seven people in a non-event thread.
SIX. In the instances where there are several people in one thread who are not directly replying to each other, QUOTE the person you are replying to if they did not post above you. If you are replying to more than one person, quote the parts of all of their posts that you are replying to. It makes things neater and less confusing. Which is important.
SEVEN. Multiboarding (being in more than one thread at a time) is allowed. However, no more than three threads at a time, unless you are given permission by me, the admin. Reasons permission will most likely be granted: if there is a ball or assembly going on, or if the person you are RPing with seems to be inactive.
EIGHT. Use spell check, proper English. No chat speak, etc. It should go without saying.
NINE. Keep it realistic, okay? Not everyone is the prettiest or most handsome most perfect person ever. Diversity in characters is a must on this site. You can have as many characters as you want (provided that each one has a separate account) but they must be diverse. They can't all be young, perfectly lovely, single, nice women okay? Every other character must be boy or girl, and taking characters from different age groups or relationship status is HIGHLY encouraged.
TEN. Every thread that isn't tagged with a person's name at the end is considered open, and ANYONE can reply so long as it is reasonable that the person responding could be in that particular place at that particular time. You can only tag someone if you have their permission first, so don't go around randomly tagging people.
ELEVEN. Is my lucky number.
ONE. Mild chat speak is allowed out of character, but don't abbreviate everything, okay? I'm not all up in the hizz-hap with all the cool and groovy-jive lingo you kids use these days.
TWO. No arguments in out of character posts. It creates tension that makes other members feel awkward, and can cause whole forums to fall apart. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN, got it?
THREE. Do not respond with a simple OOC post to a roleplay thread. If you need to say something, modify your last post to include your OOC statement.
FOUR. No advertising in the Cbox. No arguments in the Cbox. And there is absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE for impersonating someone else in the Cbox.
FIVE. Use common sense.
ONE. Signatures are REQUIRED. That's right. You heard me. Signatures are REQUIRED. If you are not graphically endowed, there is a graphics board in the OOC area. I am proficient when it comes to graphics, and if you, yourself, is graphically endowed, feel free to set up shop in the National Gallery. Also, don't make your graphics ungodly huge, alright? It's ugly and if it stretches the page, it's getting deleted.
TWO. Avatars are REQUIRED as well. Avatars are even easier to handle than signatures. If you're feeling too lazy to make your own, HOLLOW ART is a fantastic resource for Roleplayers.
THREE When requesting that someone make your graphics in the Gallery board, tag the person you want to do it for you in the title, so you don't get someone who's graphics you hate to make a banner or avatar for you.
FOUR. I know naked people are awesome, but we can't have their naughty bits in our avatars or signatures.
FIVE. NO STEALING GRAPHICS.
ONE. I already touched on this, but it's so important that I'll say it again: PLEASE GIVE YOUR CHARACTER'S DIVERSITY. I know everyone prefers to make young, beautiful characters. But branch out a little, please? Nothing sucks more than to be on a site where everyone is the same.
TWO. I will be using the warning system. Every time you break a rule, I will decide how many points to give you, and when you reach one hundred percent, that's it. You're banned, your accounts are deleted, and your characters will be put back up for adoption.
THREE. This site is not a canon only site, but there is a canon list of sorts. It's called the character list, because every time someone makes an Original Character, the original character and their family get added to the list, so that their family becomes a playable option to other people. It's awkward to have a character who's family everyone would know, but no one can actually play.
FOUR. To stay on the characters note, please try and make your characters realistic. This may be an Alternate Universe roleplay, where the people are all fake, but this doesn't mean that you can go name your character Angelyna Sparklydurst McMoonshine, okay? Period names, people! I don't much care for the name Harriet, but it was a relatively common name back then so suck it up and deal.
FIVE. Also on the realistic character note, NOT EVERYONE HAS A TRAGIC PAST. Get over it. While for some characters it will be understandable, for others it will be superfluous and highly ridiculous. If you are making a character who has other family members already taken, read their profiles before you make their own so that they match and coincide -- otherwise I will freak out and send a contingent of rabid attack weasels on you. No joke.
SIX. Do some research before you go around posting whatever you want. The helpful links are there to help you. That being said, I am not an expert on the life and times of Georgian England, so some of what I say may be incorrect. I have done my best to find out information given my resources (t3h interwebs). If you find any other information that I can add to the helpful links list, I encourage you to PM it to me. But don't going spouting off about how I am entirely incorrect about something. If it really bothers you, find a resource to back you up, instead of bitching at me about how I'm wrong. So, once again, I am not an expert. At the same time, do some research before you go posting things.
SEVEN. All display names must be in the following format: NAME MIDDLE SURNAME ! If the middle name does not fit, feel free to omit it.
